S. KOREANS' PERSONAL DATA DELETED FROM CHINESE WEB SITES.

BEIJING, March 8 Asia Pulse - South Korea has asked Chinese Internet experts to delete the personal data of South Koreans from Chinese Web sites for fear that the information may be used in scam plots, the South Korean embassy in Beijing said Monday.

The Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA) has started searching China's largest portals such as Baidu and Google to find Chinese Web sites that expose the social security and driver's license numbers of South Koreans, an embassy official said.

The agency asked its Chinese counterpart to delete the data, he added.

The move comes just days after the Web sites of about 30 key South Korean government agencies and financial institutions came under a massive cyber attack, known as distributed denial-of-service (DDoS). The attack, which swamps selected sites with traffic by seeking simultaneous access via virus-infected "zombie" computers, was traced to 98 overseas servers, although that number may rise, South Korean police said Monday.

South Koreans' personal data are known to be used in China for entering online Korean game sites and for committing cyber fraud and other crimes.
